What is involved in studying for this qualification?
There are 4 modules in this qualification:
• What is sustainability?
• Managing for sustainability
• Beyond sustainability
• Sustainable turf management plan
The estimated study time for the course is 120 hours, with the course lasting a maximum of 8-months from the date of enrolment. Candidates are able to enrol on to another of these courses, for additional fees, if they do not complete the course within the required time scale.
Why should I enrol for this qualification?
This qualification is ideal for anyone involved with maintaining and managing turfgrass surfaces and wishes to understand how they can provide a sustainable turfgrass surface. With ever increasing demands being placed on the natural and managed environment this course will suit people wishing to consider a longer term perspective in managed turf. This qualification is also ideal for someone with at least 3 years’ experience and who wish to gain a formal qualification in sustainable turf management, or who do not want to create a portfolio of evidence. There is no practical work involved with this qualification.
What are the entry requirements?
This course is only available to persons over the age of 19. You will have an interest in sustainability and how this can be applied to turfgrass surfaces.

How can it be studied?
The course will be through distance / home study learning, with tutor support primarily by email. A detailed syllabus and course study plan is provided along with a course textbook and specific web links which provide further learning material. We are aiming to create learning material so this course can also be studied online.
How is the qualification assessed?
The qualification is assessed by each candidate submitting a written report. There are 3 assessment periods throughout the year: February, June and November.
What can I do after this course?
This will depend upon which qualification you have achieved prior to the course, but other IOG qualifications at Levels 4 to 6 could be ideal.
Claim your CPD hours/points upon successful achievement of the qualification.
Should your studies overrun the prearranged time period given, you can pay £90/£180 for a further 3/6 months support, for every 3/6 months your studies overrun. Should you choose not to pay the short term extension fees, IOG support for your studies will cease.
