Andrew was appointed into the new regional team in 2014, having been an IOG regional advisor for the previous four years under the ECB programme. He says the role has very much been to act as the ‘go to guy’ across the broadest spectrum of sports, with the underlying principle of assisting others to achieve their goals in terms of turf care – with education and training as the bedrock.

“To inspire, motivate, support and guide people through this process is not only highly rewarding but an honour,” he says. “I took on the role with the intention of putting something back into an industry that has served me well for over 30 years, and the post has and continues to provide the ideal vehicle for this.”

Andy’s previous role has seen him develop the strategies and tools for facility development that have been made available by the national governing bodies (NGBs), through working partnerships – with providers, end users and stakeholders – including umpires’ associations, County Board, leagues, county grounds associations, county pitch advisers, ECB facility and funding managers, local authorities, parish councils, private clubs, trade suppliers and contractors.
He has worked in premier and feeder cricket leagues, producing effective methods of increasing pitch quality with support and follow up guidance. He’s trained umpires in effective objective pitch marking, developed a system to collate and publish results, and formulated action plans to address underperforming pitches.

He’s also provided the necessary expertise to make informed decisions on asset transfers from initial feasibility through to complete changeover of responsibly for grounds provision.

In addition, he’s delivered the full range of courses from the IOG and the NGBs, and produced bespoke and workshops/seminars, as well as water management and pitch and facility safety.

He's also offered pitch care advice in Holland, Belgium, Hungary and Sri Lanka.
