Horse Racing

The Institute of Groundsmanship, in conjunction with the BHEST, deliver a programme of 3 progressive training courses designed to meet the skills development needs of racecourse grounds staff at all levels of experience.

This course is delivered at Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced levels. The course you attend will be determined by you experience, related educational achievements or by recommendation by the racecourse executive. Each level is a 5 day course with an assessment on completion.

Foundation*

Duration 5 days
Content:
  • Soil cultivation and turf renovation
 
  • Safe Operation, Inspection and Maintenance
     of Basic Machinery
 
  • Setting Out Running Rail on Straights and Bends
 
  • Race Day Procedures
 
  • Manual Handling
 
  • Practical and Written Assessment

 

* Health and Safety is integrated into all aspects of the Foundation course

 


Intermediate

Duration: 5 days
