Professional Development
The programme is based on a set of course notes known
as 'Units'. Each unit consists of several pages of information. The units
will form the base of the learning and will be written to enable you to
complete each unit as a stand-alone course, however, each individual unit
will interlink to further units.
After you have read the course content, written assessments will then
be completed. This
may be delivered by local assessment centre, online, or other suitable
means that remains creditable. Once all the written assessments have been
completed they will be returned to Elmwood College. Many units have practical
assessments; these will be completed at the place of work or other suitable
assessment centre. A suitable assessor will be allocated to you for the
practical assessments.
After the written assessments have been processed the feedback will be
sent to you, together with the next unit. This process will continue until
all the units have been completed.
What do I do now?
On reading the notes for the unit you will find summary
information at the end of each section. After the summary there is a self
assessment section. If you can complete this satisfactorily then move
onto the next section. Do not move on if you have problems with the self
assessment. Once you are confident with all sections of the unit then
request the written assessments from the college.
What form will the assessments take?
The written assessment may take the form of short answers
but some units have extended report writing. Assessments are not designed
to catch you out. Every effort is made to explain the requirement of each
assessment before completing it.
What if I need to talk to somebody regarding any problems
that I have?
If you have any problems then you can contact the Course
tutor, Geoff Brereton, at the college. Before you start the programme
a personal training plan will be agreed. This plan will provide times,
agreed by you, when contact can be made to your tutor. An e-mail address
will also be provided as an alternative method of contact.
What is the timescale?
It is not a competition but targets are set to help you
through the programme. These targets are agreed but do take account of
time available, peak activity at work etc.
