Becoming an IOG CPD Member
Having IOG CPD Member status demonstrates that you practice the highest professional grounds management standards by keeping your knowledge and skills current. IOG CPD Membership is available at six levels to allow access for all and positively encourage professional skills development at all levels. Your entry level will be based on the level of your highest qualification and will be ranked according to the levels set out by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (www.qca.org.uk). Full details of entry levels and how to progress are detailed overleaf.
The benefit to you
As an IOG CPD Member you should gain more credibility with employers, and a competitive edge over your peers, helping you to progress your career more effectively. Only the Institute of
Groundsmanship can award IOG CPD Member status to a member. We campaign with employers to recognise this status as the benchmark for highly skilled grounds managers. All IOG CPD Members are entitled to use the appropriate letters and logo which will display your professionalism to peers and employers. The IOG CPD Member logo and letters must be used according to our brand guidelines and all artwork must be submitted to the IOG for approval prior to publication. These guidelines can be accessed by logging on to your IOG account at www.iog.org.
The benefit to your employer
Many grounds professionals may also have a relevant sports turf or horticultural qualification, but IOG CPD Members must ensure that they maintain and develop the currency of their grounds management skills and knowledge. IOG CPD Member status is an effective measurement of grounds maintenance and management competency and expertise, which will ultimately contribute to better business/facilities performance. It is also a reassurance that the individual will be experienced and can demonstrate first class skills to give you improved and sustainable facilities.
How to become an IOG CPD Member
Complete 35 hours of continuous professional development (CPD) over a 12 month period and record your activities on the record card. You must hold either, Full Membership (Professional status), Full Membership (Fellow status) or Associate Membership (with employees) to be eligible for IOG CPD Member status. Full Members with Volunteer status may work towards achieving IOG CPD Volunteer Status.
Submit your completed record card with supporting evidence, and a copy of your highest achieved qualification annually, by 1st September. If your evidence is sufficient, then you will be awarded IOG CPD Member status at the appropriate level.
Maintaining your IOG CPD Member status
Continue to complete at least 35 hours CPD each year. Once you have submitted your initial evidence and gained the IOG CPD Member status, you will only be required to submit evidence as part of our 10% random survey. If you opt to relinquish your IOG Membership through cancellation, non-renewal or non-payment of subscription you will no longer be entitled to CPD Member status. If you choose to re-join at a later date you will need to complete and submit a further 12 months evidence before you will be awarded IOG CPD Member status again.
