About Competency Training
Competency courses provide practical skills assessments independent of training. They demonstrate that the successful candidate has experience, technical knowledge and skills that have been independently and reliably assessed. Candidates are assessed as “Competent” or “Not Yet Competent”.
Assessment requires a practical demonstration of the candidate’s competence, underpinning knowledge and understanding. The way in which performance is evaluated during assessment is described in each assessment schedule. These schedules can be downloaded from the NPTC website.
NPTC’s Certificates of Competence are being incorporated into the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) which is a new way of recognising achievement through the award of credit for units and qualifications.
