    Wednesday 17th March 2010 Ffos Las Racecourse - An opportunity to inspect the first racecourse to have been constructed in the UK for 80 years, with Tim Long, Clerk of the Course and David Thursfield, Director of Ffos Las Racecourse. Ffos Las, Trimsaran near Kidwelly 5.30-8.30pm
    Wednesday 14th April 2010 The Ryder Cup Golf Course - Jim McKenzie, Director of Golf and Course Manager will show members round. After the tour he will be joined by Chris Sealey from Chippenham GC. for a light hearted exchange comparing the US Ryder Cup Course with Celtic Manor. Celtic Manor 5.30-8.30pm
    16th - 18th April 2010 The Royal Horticultural Society Spring Show Cardiff - Sports turf and lawn care advisory stand. Career opportunities and training in turf management. Bute Park at the rear of Cardiff Castle 9-5pm

    IOG/BIGGA Visit to the SWALEC Stadium and Talk by Keith Exton at 5.00pm. on Tuesday 9th March

    I am pleased to confirm that members will now have an opportunity to inspect the Glamorgan County Cricket Ground and hear Keith Exton's talk which was postponed in January.

     

    Members should enter through gate No. 2, the Wilf Wooller Memorial Gates, and turn right inside the ground to park if there is room. Extra space is available to the left of the gates.

     

    A room has been made available to us following the outside visit, where tea and coffee will be provided, courtesy of Simon Lee the CEO of Glamorgan CCC.

    BIGGA South West Section proudly presents its 2010 Spring Seminar

    ‘The 3P’s’ - Progress, Peril & Presentation

    10.00am to 3.30pm Thursday 11th March 2010

    Venue: Chipping Sodbury Golf Club.

    9.30am – 10.00  Arrival and Welcome from Chairman Chris Sealey.

        

    Greg Evans (Course Manager Ealing GC) ‘Is 2mm Possible for All of Us?’

    Greg will give an overview of greenkeeping practices at Ealing GC and outline what it takes to produce greens that can be cut at 2mm and whether this is an aim all managers should aspire to. This is sure to start the day off well so don’t be late!

    Dr. Ruth Mann (STRI)  ‘Disease Update’    

    Dr. Mann will present an overview of the STRI’s latest research work on sports turf diseases along with an appraisal of current and future prevention/control measures

     

    12.15pm – 1.15pm:   Lunch

    Jane Leyland (UK Research and Development Manager Barenbrug UK Ltd)    

    Jane will be giving an overview of New Grass Types in Development and the future of turf grass enhancement (drought resistance, height of cut, disease resistance) from a seed supplier and breeders point of view.

    Frank Newberry (Golden Key Sponsor) ‘How to be a Powerful Persuader’  

    Frank has studied the behaviour of Greenkeepers for over 20 years. He has ‘coached’ greenkeepers at the bottom, and at the top of the profession.  Has everyone got what it takes to persuade and win support for their ideas in the workplace? Is it just luck? Do we have to be exceptional? Frank will explain all.
