IOG In Action focuses on grounds maintenance issues in Bridgwater

The only ‘black stuff’ visible on St Patrick’s Day at the Bridgwater College Cannington Centre for Land-based Studies was that being worked on during the host of machinery and equipment demonstrations that took place as part of the IOG In Action event.

With a comprehensive range of equipment provided by Dennis, Ecosol, Fleet Line Markers, Harrod UK, Lloyds of Letchworth and SISIS, the 80 or so delegates had plenty to interest them – though the education sessions also provided lots of food for thought.

After introductions by Kevin Duffill, the IOG’s Head of Membership Services – whose update on IOG progress included an introduction to Regional Advisor Len Smith who, said Kevin, would be on hand throughout the day to answer any questions about the IOG’s local/regional activities – delegates were then presented with a sequence of interesting and informative presentations:

  • Steve Denton outlined the benefits of Rigby Taylor’s new ESP (Enhanced Seed Performance) liquid grass seed coating – and indicated how the company’s ongoing research and development programme also involves projects that look 10 years ahead;
  • Howard Wood of Environmental Services announced the UK availability (via Rigby Taylor) of an exciting new range of flowers that in new equipment availablesustainable landscaping terms, are an attractive alternative to, for example, the landscape and urban environment sectors;
  • Syngenta’s Dr Simon Watson outlined ‘Optimising application’, detailing the benefits of the company’s new spray nozzles (reduced drift-less waste) and reminded the audience of the many useful features of the Greencast website; and
  • Consultant Noel McKenzie presented an entertaining look at Problems with turf - renovations and beyond.

These sessions were interspersed with the equipment demonstrations held throughout the College’s extensive grounds.
