Research & Funding

Investing in your future

Developing and supporting the grounds management profession, and those involved in it,
is one of the founding principles of the Institute of Groundsmanship. As such the IOG 2012 Fund was established to make grants available for educational, research and benevolent purposes.

Supporting Industry Research and Development

The IOG 2012 Fund has successfully provided financial support to enable a number of major research projects including comprehensive trials into the use of biostimulants on football pitches; the effects of the use of rubber crumb technology on sports turf root zones; and trials on the use of nitrogen fertilisers on football pitches.

Full details of all research projects supported by the IOG 2012 Fund can be reviewed in the Published Articles & Research section.

Supporting Education for Grounds Staff

The fund has made it possible for grounds care staff to work towards higher education qualifications, including Masters Degrees at Cranfield University. In addition, colleges have benefited for example Reaseheath College in Cheshire has taken groups of students on research trips to high profile UK and European sports facilities, with grant aid from the 2012 Fund.

Supporting the Future of your Industry

The IOG is committed to putting money back into the grounds care industry and funds are allocated from events such as IOG SALTEX and IOG SCOTSTURF, plus reserves from
central funds.

As the only national organisation representing groundsmen from across the industry, the IOG
is committed to education and research and the development of new techniques and products to make the care of sports surfaces and amenity facilities as scientific as any other industry discipline.

Applications for Grants

The IOG welcomes applications from organisations and individuals in the grounds management, greenkeeping, landscaping, horticulture and amenity management industries
for educational, research and benevolent purposes.
