The IOG was founded 75 years ago by 11 volunteers. Until more recently the organisation and all of its activities were carried out by volunteers which included the organisation of IOG SALTEX, our annual national exhibition, and the publication of the Groundsman magazine. The dedication of our volunteers is recognised and valued by the Directors (who are volunteers themselves), the staff and most importantly the industry.
We are keen to attract new volunteers to work with our existing network throughout the UK and Ireland. As an IOG Volunteer you will have the opportunity to be involved at a local, regional or national level in a range of exciting roles including events and communications, IOG SALTEX and Scotsurf site team activities, mentoring and member liaison to name just a few. You will also benefit from training, the opportunity to develop new skills and the support of a dedicated team of professional staff at Head Office and in the regions.
By volunteering you could enhance your career opportunities. A recent survey of 200 leading businesses in the UK responded:
- 73% of employers would recruit a candidate with volunteering experience over one without
- 94% of employers believe that volunteering can add to skills
- 94% of employees who volunteered to learn new skills had benefited either by getting their first job, improving their salary, or being promoted
If you have any queries about getting involved as a volunteer with the IOG please contact Membership Services on 01908 312511 or by email, membership@iog.org.
