The Groundsman and Sports Turf, Amenity & Leisure Magazines

The Institute of Groundsmanship is delighted to announce the launch of the new and revised Groundsman magazine and a brand new bi-monthly sister title, Sports Turf, Amenity & Leisure - we've got the industry covered!

Over the last 12 months we have been reviewing the content and future direction of our monthly magazine, the Groundsman.  We have received a lot of feedback from members - some good, and some not so good.  As the longest standing magazine in the industry and often the most valued IOG membership benefit we are keen that it serves its readers well - that it is relevant, interesting, innovative and above all a good read on all things grounds related.

Recognising that the industry, and so our membership profile, has evolved over the years so we recognise that the magazine needs to evolve to reflect this.  Our members, who are also our readers, range from the lone volunteer to grounds professionals managing national stadia and everything in between - local authorities, independent schools, contractors and parks and gardens to name but a few.  Budgets, team sizes and management responsibility also vary hugely across the sectors which impacts on the relevance of the information being provided.

Recognising the disparity of our readership, and not satisfied with a one size fits all, middle of the road approach, we have decided to divide the content of our magazine into two titles - the Groundsman and Sports Turf, Amenity & Leisure.  Each title will be produced and distributed to members on a bi-monthly basis and will allow for a clearer focus on the many subjects that we would like to cover.

Details of each magazine is outlined below:

The Groundsman -

A practical approach

The Groundsman is the magazine for anyone involved in the maintenance of grounds including volunteers, professionals and the suppliers who serve them.  Newly re-branded for 2009 and being distributed on a bi-monthly basis, our ‘on the ground reporters’ will deliver the latest news, reviews and in-depth features with a renewed focus on IOG regions and branches as well as the industry issues impacting on grounds staff.

It presents serious industry issues in an accessible, jargon-free manner via regular analysis and features, ranging from behind the scenes access to preparations at all the major sporting events to practical and timely planning and maintenance features.

Sports Turf, Amenity & Leisure -

Science, technology and innovation - an independent view on the events shaping our industry

Sport Turf, Amenity & Leisure is a brand new bi-monthly magazine (distributed on alternate months to The Groundsman) and will bring the latest findings from global industry research, development projects and trials that impact on the sports turf, amenity, play and leisure sectors of the grounds management industry in the UK and Ireland.  As well as exposing scientific and technological developments within the sector, it will also deliver practical advice on management, legal and career development matters for today’s grounds and facilities managers.
