Inaugural Alex Millar award is sponsored by Environmental Turf Technology

ETT is sponsoring this year’s IOG Industry Award for the Professional Football Grounds Management Team of the Year

Environmental Turf TechnologyA leading supplier to many Premier League clubs, ETT’s Managing Director, Richard Lawrence and Sales Manager Richard Fortmuller, say the company’s support for the prestigious award is “completely appropriate bearing in mind our reputation throughout the UK football industry.”

They continue: “We are especially pleased to be involved with this Award which has been established this year in honour of the IOG’s late chairman, Alex Millar. A revered groundscare professional, Alex was also a keen follower of football – being a fan of Rangers FC – and the Award is a fitting tribute not only to him but also to the expertise of the grounds management teams it is designed to acknowledge.

The Professional Football Grounds Management Team of the Year – the Alex R Millar Award – is part of the IOG Industry Awards being held at the SWALEC Stadium, Cardiff, on Thursday November 25, the same day/venue as the IOG Industry Sports Turf Conference. The Award will be voted on by professional football grounds management teams from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland – effectively, groundsmen themselves voting in much the same way that the PFA votes for player of the year.

Designed to recognise leadership, innovation and achievement in the groundscare industry, the IOG Industry Awards comprise 16 categories of entry covering sport, grass roots, young people and the environment:

  • The Groundsman’s Groundsman of the Year
  • Spectator Sports Ground of the Year
  • Independent School Sports Ground of the Year
  • Best Maintained Artificial Pitch of the Year
  • Professional Sports Grounds Management Team of the Year
  • Public Sector Sports Ground of the Year
  • Grass Roots Sports Ground of the Year
  • Volunteer Sports Grounds Management Team of the Year
  • Volunteer Sports Groundsman of the Year
  • Most Promising Sports Turf Student of the Year
  • Young Groundsman of the Year
  • Environmental Project of the Year
  • Employer of the Year
  • Innovation in Grounds Maintenance
  • Public sector outdoor facility of the year
  • Lifetime Achievement of the Year.

Each category will be judged on criteria which will include available resources, budget control, maintenance and use of machinery, presentation and housekeeping standards, technical knowledge, scale of operations and frequency of use, health & safety management, record keeping, environmental issues, community involvement and training & education.

ETT is active in several continents and numerous climates – from Reykjavik in Iceland to The Creek in Dubai – and is involved in a variety of turf-based sports. It supplies fertilisers (including a custom mixing service whereby trace elements and seaweed can be easily added to the NPK of choice) and root zone amendments, as well as a soil testing service.

The company’s year-on-year growth is down to a combination of quality products married with technical backup and customer service. This has led to the outstanding growth of the business over the last 10 years.
