APSE south and south west regional environmental services advisory group – Parks and open spaces
The next meeting of the APSE’s South/South West regional advisory group will be held as follows:

This meeting brings together speakers with a strong background in practical horticulture offering sound advice and assistance on some of the main issues effecting parks, including grounds maintenance, staff training and funding.
Speakers confirmed for the meeting are:
1. Training challenges for parks - David Winn, Industry Partnership Manager, Lantra
Qualification and Credit Framework New Level 4 qualification for the sector The Environmental and Land-based Diploma – seeking employer champions
2. Managing urban parks - Don Lawson, Superintendant for City Gardens, City of London Corporation
- Managing the City’s parks and open spaces
Practical issues for maintaining open spaces within an urban setting Maximising impact, facilitating park usage 3. Funding and maintaining parks and open spaces,– Fiona Dennis , English Heritage
- Management of historic trees and restoration of garden features
Funding options for the future Historic and Botanic Gardens Bursary scheme The advisory group is open to elected members, officers and trade union representatives with an interest in environmental services including waste services, street cleansing and parks and grounds maintenance.
