IOG member wins Football League 2 Groundsman of the Year Award

Burton Albion Groundsman and IOG member, Simon Marshall, has been announced as the League 2 winner of The Football League Groundsman of the Year, while Middlesbrough’s Tony Bell (also a member of the IOG) was highly commended in the Championship category.

Having been promoted last season, Burton Albion is enjoying its first season as a member of The Football League and anyone who has visited the Pirelli Stadium will appreciate the efforts of the ground staff there. Simon Marshall has provided manager Paul Peschisolido with an excellent surface to play on and that saw him named as the League 2 Groundsman of the Year.

Cheltenham Town's Terry Roberts and Mark Reeve from Lincoln City where highly commended in this category.

In the week when they claimed the Coca-Cola Championship title, Groundsmen Mick Curran and Andrew Tulley of Newcastle United picked up the Championship award ahead of Bristol City's Craig Richardson and Tony Bell.

In League 1, Southampton's Andy Gray was the divisional winner, having been highly commended last season in the Championship.
