Queen Elizabeth II Fields In Trust (FIT)
FIT last year launched the QEII Challenge which aims to protect 2,012 outdoor recreational spaces by the year 2012, to create a permanent living legacy of both the Diamond Jubilee and the London 2012 Olympics for future generations. Local Authorities, Town and Parish Councils can nominate sites to be part of the scheme. The England and Wales Cricket Board and Lawn Tennis Association have lent their support to the scheme by lobbying for cricket and tennis facilities to be part of the programme.
Voting on the fields put forward takes place in September with the successful schemes accessing grant funding to realise the projects aims.
Queen Elizabeth II Fields County Funds
There is also a QEII County programme where in the counties of Ayrshire, Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Cornwall, Derbyshire, Hertfordshire, Lancashire, Leicestershire, North Yorkshire and Shropshire, Local Authorities and Town/Parish Councils can benefit from the QEII County funding scheme.
Grants of up to £5,000 are available to improve QE II fields. The funds will open on 1 October with a submission deadline of 1 December. Grant offers will be made by the end of 2011 with regular updates of other potential funding opportunities.
