Together with a wide range of turf and landscaping maintenance machinery, BLEC will be using Windsor to display and demonstrate newly-developed products. Among other machines on show will be a new tractor-mounted scarifier and sandslitter which removes and collects spoil and fills grooves with sand in one pass.

The Sandfiller, manufactured by GKB Machines, has been specifically designed for aerating and draining sports turf. It has received wide praise in trials on golf courses and football pitches. The Sandfiller can cut grooves at 40 mm centres with carbon-tipped blades that go as deep as 4 cm. The spoil is removed to a hopper which can be side-tipped. Within the same machine is another hopper which contains kiln-dried sand which is deposited in the grooves - thus completing the slitting and sanding operation in one pass.

Also on the stand will be the BLEC Multivator, a multi-use machine for a wide range of tasks achieved with only one drive unit. Decompacting, soil recycling and topdressing all in one pass, the Multivator has quick hook-on rear attachments, an easy-change blade system and heavy duty reversible drive system. Charterhouse Turf Machinery will showcase a number of exciting new machines. The renowned Verti-Drain decompactor range will be enhanced with the addition of the new 1513 model, a very fast, lightweight machine which can work to 150 mm deep. Working width is 1.3 m and the 1513 is belt-driven from each side and can be pto-powered from a 20 HP plus tractor or driven by the new Redexim Carrier, a multi-function tool carrier designed to carry a variety of hard working implements.

Demonstrating the versatility of the Verti-Drain design, the Charterhouse display will include the latest 2220, which offers high workrates with its fast working speed and 2 m width, and the 2216 which can decompact to 23 cm for the ultimate in deep aeration and shattering throughout the sub-surface layer. Both machines will also accept a 1 inch diameter tine.

Encouraging healthy turf growth by verticutting is a highly effective
technique, and the Verti-Cut 1200 increases the range of power unit options open to the greenkeeper. It can be equipped with a powerful and reliable 5.5 HP
Briggs & Stratton engine for towing behind a utility vehicle or powered from a tractor PTO. The Verti-Cut 1200 offers a 1.2 m working width for increased productivity, and depending on ground conditions can work to 40 mm.

The Turf Tidy 3000 can de-thatch, flail cut and sweep, using a fully floating cutting head that follows ground contours and a unique turbo fan ensuring clean and even pick-up. Working width of 1.8 m offers a high work rate without demanding a large tractor, while the large hopper has hydraulic tipping to 2.17 m.

There will also be plenty of other highlights on the stand, from overseeders to the most advanced range of synthetic turf maintenance equipment available.

There will be a line-up of Countax, Westwood, Ariens, Gravely, ECHO, Shindaiwa and ECHO Bear Cat products - garden tractors, out-front, zero-turn and pedestrian mowers, chainsaws, brushcutters, hedgetrimmers, power blowers, chippers, chipper shredders and snow throwers.

Seed buyers, managers and contractors should visit the Countrywide stand to discover how DLF’s iSeed can deliver`the best of both worlds` - high quality seed and focused fertilisation.

Smoother flow characteristics for the coated seed ensure drills deliver an even sow, whatever kinds of machinery contractors use.

The new formulation follows research by the world’s largest grass breeder into how to further improve the flow of iSeed through seed drills, after feedback from users identified application difficulties with some types of equipment.

ISeed delivers a double benefit for those applying it – high quality seed and focused fertilisation to improve the emergence and establishment of the grass sward following germination. When overseeding, iSeed allows turf managers to limit feeding of the existing sward because the new grass plant has its own local food source to draw upon.

DLF has developed an improved coating formulation, which, when trialled in the field by end users and machine manufacturers, have been shown to produce flow characteristics they say virtually match those of bare seed.

After a break of several years, the full range of Sisis products can once again be seen at IOG SALTEX, this year being featured alongside Dennis Mowers.

Dennis has a reputation for superbly engineered, robust mowing equipment developed from close consultation with leading turf professionals. Industry standard products, like the FT cassette system, will be available and this features a range of attachments from brushes and spikers to scarifiers and slitters. This is in addition to a choice of five or nine blade reels for maximum versatility.

Having made its debut in 2010, Dennis’s Razor Ultra has quickly made its mark for a wide range of applications. It features an eleven-blade dedicated cutting cylinder with a 560 mm cut width. An ultra-short wheel base offers superb performance on undulating greens and pitches while independent drive and cylinder rotation enhances cut quality at slow speeds. While providing a perfect finish, the mower’s tungsten tipped groomer also controls lateral grasses to ensure the desired speed of the playing surface is maintained.

There is also the Razor Standard without the added cost or complication of a groomer, but still giving groundsmen, greenkeepers and gardeners the superb cut of the Razor Ultra. All Razor models can now be specified with a loop or T-bar handle for ultimate individual operator comfort.

Stepping up to a more heavyweight cylinder mower is The Premier, offered with a choice of 76 or 91cm cut as well as diesel or petrol engines. This 350 kgs machine has been designed with over 75 years of experience and is used worldwide cutting football, hockey, cricket, tennis, rugby and ornamental lawns. Its popularity is due in part to its easy manoeuvrability facilitated by the three section rear roller and steering brakes – a roller that produces an excellent stripe pattern and rolling characteristics.

The Sisis product range is all-encompassing featuring pedestrian and PTO-driven machinery as well as an ever expanding series of equipment for the emerging synthetic maintenance market. Sisis will have a varied selection of its market leading products for inspection, some being demonstrated throughout the show.

Within the highly productive pedestrian equipment sector, one product stands out - the Autoslit deep slitter is ideal for aerating and decompacting fine or outfield turf. The angle of the tines and spiral design of the tine shaft assist penetration, giving maximum underground cultivation with minimum surface disturbance.

In pride of place will be the revolutionary Javelin AerAid 1500. This machine aerates up to 127 mm deep while injecting compressed air into the soil for the ultimate decompaction effect. The AerAid can also be fitted with alternative tines for other operations such as hollow coring and can be used with or without air for total versatility.

Sisis has effective and straightforward maintenance equipment for synthetic sports surfaces. The tractor-mounted Osca 3 being a typical example of a proven, versatile machine. Its oscillating brush has a full working width of 1.8 m and redistributes the infill whilst ‘standing’ up the synthetic carpet at the same time. The effect is improved playing conditions and prolonged life of the playing surface. As a bonus it is equally useful on natural turf, dispersing topdressings quickly and efficiently.

DJ Turfcare, the leading niche-market product supplier for the groundscare industry, will show a range of exciting new products. The second-generation Atom edgers, both professional and domestic – with new Mitsubishi engines – will be on show. They are tougher, easier to use and have improved controls. The Professional Edger Pro 580 is popular with local authorities for kerb use and the Atom 450 Deluxe has been a winning machine for gardeners with large areas of lawn to edge.

The Bushranger edger (seen for the first time at Windsor last year) for turf professionals will also be on show. Aimed primarily at local authorities and those looking after large landscaped areas, this is ideal for producing razor sharp edges, especially up close to raised paving because of its drop-down wheel.

The new Plugger PL855 Pro HD has an optional stand-on ride-behind platform called the Step Saver. This aeration machine features hydrostatic-drive and uses both solid and hollow tines. It is highly manoeuvrable and is ideal for superior grass maintenance in difficult areas, being easy to transport and handle. It is particularly useful for large areas of fine turf, and bowling clubs have found the Plugger invaluable in reviving tired compacted greens.

The stand will also feature the updated Atom bunker edger – now celebrating its fifth year as a leading product for the golf industry. It has a new Mitsubishi two-stroke engine.

Also on show will be the award-winning Mo Bacter – an organic lawn fertiliser that destroys moss and eliminates debris by bacterial action, avoiding the need to rake. Bio-Lime, from Viano, is an ideal autumn or spring fertiliser for combating a low pH, sweetening the soil to make it less acid and encouraging healthy strong grass growth, while discouraging moss. It contains magnesium to create a thick sward which helps maintain it in peak condition through the winter months. Recovery, also from the Viano stable of organic fertiliser products, is formulated to help turf overcome stressful conditions associated with drought, flood or overplay. It is an ideal autumn or spring fertiliser to give grass a real boost. It also contains magnesium and this combination gives grass the ability to bounce back from stress.

Other products include Mossgo, a powerful microbiocidal liquid which quickly and effectively removes moss from hard surfaces, and acts as a long-term preventative on areas including artificial sports surfaces, pathways, timber and glasshouses.

Etesia UK returns to IOG SALTEX to launch six new products and on the biggest stand it has ever had, and no less than four exciting new products from Etesia and two new Pellenc products will all be making their debuts; details of which are being kept under wraps until the first day of the exhibition.

The Etesia team will again be out in force with Etesia UK showcasing its range of professional ride-on and pedestrian mowers, ride-on brushcutters and trailers along with Pellenc’s lithium-ion battery powered chainsaws, polesaws, hedge trimmers and pruning shears, plus the new product launches.

In addition, the company will be showing the range of Pellenc lithium-ion battery powered tools, aimed at local authorities and commercial end users. Pellenc is the world’s first manufacturer to offer a whole range of professional tools which operate with the use of a high capacity lithium-ion battery, totally removing CO2 emissions and noise pollution.

Hayter, UK manufacturer and distributor of Toro grounds products, is this year working alongside Lely (UK) – distributors of Toro golf and fine turf products - to promote the broad range of Toro equipment. The Toro products available offer turf-care solutions across all sectors of the professional groundscare and sports turf industry and IOG SALTEX will showcase examples - including walk-behind, ride-ons and trailed mowers, zero turns, mid-size walk-behinds, Grandstands, hovers and scarifiers. Additionally, taking centre stage, an important new ride-on mower will be unveiled for the first time.

The Groundsmaster 360 represents an entirely new ‘breed’ of mower. It combines the best control features of the traditional out front rotary with the productivity and agility of a zero turn radius mower. The result is unprecedented manoeuvrability coupled with a 20% improvement in productivity compared with out front rotaries. The Groundsmaster 360 performs as a multi-purpose utility vehicle for clearing snow, debris, etc. This means the mower works for 12 months in a year instead of six – another boost for productivity.

The new mower features the Quad-Steer four-wheel steering system which, with the control provided by a steering wheel, minimises turf damage in even the tightest turns. The mower is available in either two- or four-wheel drive, or four-wheel drive with a factory-installed cab. The highly productive 183 cm cutting deck, proven on the Groundsmaster 7200 Series, is available in either side-discharge, rear-discharge or recycler configuration.

Among the many other mowers on display will be the CT Series of compact triples, shown for the first time since their official launch in April 2010. Taken as a whole, the exhibit will demonstrate that there is a Toro solution ideally tailor-made for every grass cutting requirement, fully supported by a wealth of experience and expertise.

The Husqvarna P 524 is a new professional petrol front mower with all the same features and benefits as its diesel-powered sibling – the P 520D – but at a lower price.

Also on the stand will be the T540 XP professional chainsaw and the new 500 series professional brush cutters.

John Deere’s new walk-behind greens mower and wide area front rotary mower will both be featured on the company’s stand.

The SL Series PrecisionCut walk-behind greens mowers have been designed to deliver a top quality finish on golf courses, tennis courts, cricket squares, bowling greens and other fine turf areas. The mowers feature low noise and vibration levels, a powerful 4 hp petrol engine and easy bedknife-to-reel adjustment.

The 180SL, 220SL (pictured) and 260SL replace the previous C Series models, and feature a standard 11 blade, 127 mm diameter reel with true cutting widths of 46, 56 and 66 cm respectively. The mowers employ a fixed-head version of the patented SpeedLink technology now incorporated on the cutting units of all John Deere PrecisionCut machines.

This innovative design allows height of cut adjustments to be made much more quickly and easily, from just one side of the mower. In addition, a new patented front roller bracket makes it equally simple to change the front roller when required.

The latest Series II 1600 Turbo WAM out-front rotary mower features as standard a Stage IIIB (Interim Tier 4) 57 HP diesel engine to meet emission standards; a fully adjustable high-backed air suspension seat to improve operator comfort; and run-flat tyres on the castor-action gauge wheels, to reduce downtime and increase productivity.

With its 3.25 m overall cutting width and proven mechanical 4WD system, the 1600T WAM offers the ultimate in
power, manoeuvrability, traction and operator comfort for large scale commercial mowing contractors, local authorities, golf courses and other public and private institutions.

Additional improvements for 2011 include more efficient hydraulics and deck motors, a two-post folding ROPS and Service ADVISOR diagnostics for extra serviceability.

Kubota Tractor and Groundcare will be offering a range of solutions from affordable, versatile equipment to competitive finance to ensure specifiers can make savings while getting to grips with their groundscare requirements.

Among these are the popular G Series professional ride-on mowers, which are available with 23 and 26 HP engines and 48 and 54 inch cutting decks, respectively. They feature hydrostatic power steering and low vibration levels for maximum comfort. Other ride-on mowers on display will include the diesel F3680, ZD326 and GR1600 models as well as the newly launched GR2120 and the T1880 petrol garden mowers.

These will be complemented by a variety of tractors, including the M40 Series agricultural tractors; mid-range models including the GL40 Series, L4100 and L3200; compact tractors, including the STV Series, B30 and B20 Series; and the BX2350 sub-compact tractor.

No Kubota stand would be complete without the popular RTV900 all-terrain utility vehicle (pictured) equally suited to traversing off road as it is to running on tarmac, the 21 HP four-wheel drive model features a steel hydraulically-tipped rear cargo box, which thanks to a 500 kgs load capacity can cater for a euro-pallet, allowing users to transport fertiliser and other materials without first needing to unload the pallet.

Kubota machines are designed to offer optimum power to weight ratios, ensuring maximum fuel efficiency. Precision engineering allows the company to extract high horsepower from a relatively small engine displacement.

Kuhn will be a new name for many visitors to IOG SALTEX as the company makes its first appearance at the event for over 25 years to launch its Amenity Pro machinery range. Based in Telford and with an established dealership network across the UK, Kuhn offers implements for use with tractors, compact tractors and ATVs as well as some hand-held appliances.

The Amenity Pro range includes hedge and grass trimmers, flail toppers/shredders, powered cultivators, and spreaders for salt, sand and fertiliser, but it is sprayers where the company offers greatest diversity. Kuhn’s amenity sprayer range covers hand-held through to tractor-mounted models, with features such controlled dosing being a good illustration of the company’s commitment to technological advancement.

On show from Lely will be Yanmar compact tractors, grass cutting equipment, transporters, tillers and a range of Solo sprayers, brushcutters and chainsaws.

Major Equipment has developed a new range of mowers for verge maintenance to be launched at the show. They are available in working widths of 1.4, 1.85 and 2.5 m. Visit the stand for further details.

Mark Harrod Ltd will showcase its new range of pitch maintenance products.Drag brushes are a key tool for any artificial pitch and the company has developed two tractor-mounted brushes. The new folding and fixed drag brushes are made from 50 mm steel, are electro zinc-plated and use hard-wearing 100 mm high black monofilament brushes. The folding drag brush has been developed to fit through narrow entrances found on large multi-use pitches and can be folded (up and down) with ease. The drag brushes come with three types of standard attachments, either ball hitch, 3-point linkage or clevis hitch.

This year also sees a complete overhaul of the company’s line marking paint and machines, including a range of Mark Harrod ready-to-use and concentrate paint which offers great durability and value. Powered by a three-cylinder, water-cooled diesel engine the MF 1532 H complements the existing MF 1532 MA tractor to give customers the choice of hydrostatic or mechanical transmission models at an important power point within the sub-50 HP market.

A range of machinery from Active to include lawnmowers, brush cutters, hedge trimmers and chainsaws will be displayed by Midland Power Machinery Distributors. Ransomes Jacobsen will display three new Ransomes products for the local authority/contractor market - the Parkway 3 ride-on triple mower, the HR300 out-front rotary and a smaller version of the remote controlled slope mower, the Spider 500. Also on display will be Cushman branded utility vehicles, a new range of compact Iseki tractors and a new top dresser from the Turfco brand. For the golf sector there’s the first opportunity to see recently launched Jacobsen products including the GP400 greens mower, the LF550/570 light fairway mowers and the new Eclipse 322 Electric, the latest battery-powered version of the hybrid riding greens mower that has had a major impact on greens mowing since its launch last year.

The standard Parkway 3 machine comes with 6-blade Magna cutting units, a swing-out centre unit and maintenance-free rear axle, fingertip controls mounted on an adjustable armrest together with beacon, lights and ROPs. Also on display will be a machine complete with the optional air-conditioned cab and a further Parkway 3 will feature a new cutting system, which is sure to be of interest to contractors and local authority users. The Ransomes HR300 is an upgraded out-front rotary mower with easier access to the operator’s platform, improved transmission efficiency resulting in better hill climbing, a choice of wheel width for improved stability, digital screen and controls providing communality with the Highway 3 and Parkway 3. There are 60 and 72 inch rear discharge cutting deck options and a further display machine will feature the hydraulically-driven Wessex flail.

Also displaying the Ransomes brand is the new Spider 500, a mini version of the dedicated remote controlled slope mower that has proved very popular with utility companies and landscape contractors. From the Jacobsen brand there are many firsts at this year’s event. The Jacobsen GP400 greens mower appears at the show for the first time. It retains many of the features of its predecessor, the G-Plex III, including a swing-out centre unit for easy maintenance, the legendary cutting units with a choice of 7, 9 or 11-blade cylinders and a Kubota 3 cylinder diesel engine developing 13.2KW at 3200 rpm.

A new tank design incorporates the fuel and hydraulic reservoirs in a single moulded unit and is hinged to provide much improved access to the engine compartment. An all-new ROPS frame, prepared to take the optional dew whip holder, is fitted to a strengthened chassis that reduces vibration to the operator.

Another first is the new range of light fairway mowers, the Jacobsen LF550 and LF570. A smooth uptake of power using the ‘drive-by-wire’ operation of the digitally controlled traction pedal is a feature that greenkeepers will experience. This helps to prevent wheel spin and the low pedal effort increases operator comfort. SureTrac, a new traction system provides class leading climbing ability on slopes and a new braking system has been engineered with maintenance-free wet brakes integrated into the front wheel motors.

The undoubted highlight from Jacobsen is the new Eclipse 322 Electric; this is the battery-powered version of this unique hybrid greens mower. The hybrid features a small diesel engine powering a continuous generator, which in turn provides electricity to run all of the onboard systems including reel motors, steering and traction motors. With absolutely no hydraulics there’s no chance of an accidental spill.

There’s a lot of technology packed into this mower at a competitive cost. It has the ability to control clip rate and for the course manager this means that he can be assured that his greens will be cut exactly the same, no matter which operator is on the machine.

Other equipment includes Cushman branded utility vehicles, the Iseki SXG15 compact tractor mower with new grass collector and the new Turfco CR7 top dresser.

The Richmond Wisconsin 3600 is a ride-on for all seasons – an enclosed tunnel between the wheels directs clippings from the steel rotary deck straight into the collector, giving superb results without blocking in long and wet grass. Implements such as brushes and snow blades can be run from a hydraulic power pack, extending the use of the power unit right through the year.

Flagship of the TYM tractors range and cutting a dash on the company’s stand, the 100 HP T1003 has the muscle to tackle tasks from gang mowing to hedge and verge trimming, and handling the meatiest aerator or decompacter.

The broadcast spreaders provide capacities from 23 litres. At the highest capacity there is a choice between a pedestrian controlled unit and a tow-behind spreader.

The towable spreader is the ideal choice where multiple pitches or larger areas of amenity turf need to be treated. The first of its kind available from Vitax Supaturf, it provides all the features and benefits of the other machines in the range.

Vitax Supaturf will also be showing its full range of line marking machines and liquids. The new Briteliner Arrow transfer wheel marking machine will, in particular, be featured.

UK’s largest tractor on display at IOG SALTEX

IOG SALTEX exhibitor Cleveland Sitesafe is bringing the largest tractor outside of the USA to this year’s show - a 27-tonnes 650/50 Big Bud originally made in Montana over 30 years ago.

Mike Scaiffe, Managing Director of Cleveland Sitesafe and a fervent supporter of the show, spent up to 24 months restoring the giant vehicle originally used in the construction industry, and now officially recognised as the UK’s largest and most powerful tractor.

It has a six-cylinder Cummins KTA-19 650 HP engine and Allison Twin Disc TD.92-2610 transmission.

The 650/50 Big Bud will be on display at IOG SALTEX’s South entrance throughout the three days, complementing Cleveland Sitesafe’s display of highly-secure, all-steel café/kiosk, groundsman’s stores and chemical storage solutions.

Spreading the name

One of the largest turf-specific demonstrations of its type ever staged at IOG SALTEX will take place on the 960 m2 Everris stand - B1 (Blue Zone) - on all three days of this year’s show.

Combining a spreader calibration demonstration with a hands-on technical workshop, the event has been organised by Everris (formerly Scotts) to help provide answers on how to correctly set up and operate spreaders to achieve accurate and cost-effective applications of fertiliser.

The spreader calibration demonstration will be carried out on behalf of Everris by spreader and sprayer testing and calibration specialist, SCS Spreader and Sprayer Testing. Machines to be featured during the practical sessions include an Everris SR-2000 pedestrian rotary spreader and a Vicon PS04 oscillating-spout machine mounted on a compact tractor. Fertiliser will be spread over a measured distance with the applied product being caught in individual trays and weighed, enabling precise calculation of spreading rate and accuracy across the specific bout width.

Among the points that will be highlighted are the importance of maintaining a constant working speed, dealing with common spreading issues and problems, spreader maintenance and the features incorporated within spreading equipment to help improve accuracy and minimise waste.

Accompanied by explanatory commentary, each 45 min demonstration is scheduled to commence at 10 am, 12 noon, 2 pm and 4 pm on the Tuesday and Wednesday of the show, and at 10 am, 12 noon and 2 pm on the Thursday.

In the period between each scheduled spreader calibration demonstration, visitors will be able to quiz Everris and SCS staff on application and calibration issues, and carry out physical calibrations of an Everris pedestrian spreader. This will be followed by timed spreading runs designed to demonstrate how variations in walking speed can adversely affect application accuracy.

Although the spreader calibration demonstrations and technical workshops will represent a very important educational part of Everris’ presence at this year’s IOG SALTEX, the company will also be reminding visitors that 2011 is the very first time that the name Everris has been seen at the event

This time last year it was Scotts preparing to show its extensive range of world-class fertilisers, plant protection products, grass seeds and complementary products to the amenity, landscaping and turf care sectors.

Although the name might have changed, Everris will be assuring existing and prospective customers that it remains “business as usual”, with the same products and same people looking forward with great confidence to new and exciting opportunities as a member of the ICL group.

Two specific areas that will be highlighted are the company’s advanced fertiliser manufacturing facilities in Heerlen, Holland, and its potash mine near Cleveland, a valuable UK source of potash for Everris fertilisers.

“This year’s IOG SALTEX gives Everris the opportunity to formally launch itself to professionals working within the sports, amenity and landscaping sectors,” commented Richard Walton, the company’s Business Manager for the UK and Ireland. “We hope visitors will find plenty to interest them on our stand and will share in our excitement at the tremendous opportunities that lie ahead.

“The spreader calibration demonstration is an extremely good fit with our Integrated Turf Management programme and should provide a useful and interesting experience for every buyer and user of fertiliser wanting to improve accuracy and minimise waste.”
