IOG launches new-look foundation training course for racecourse groundsmen

The course will be completed in 1.5 days, as opposed to 5!

The Institute of Groundsmanship (IOG) and the Racecourse Association have jointly agreed on a new entry-level training course for racecourse groundsmen. The Foundation course will now be completed in just 1.5 days (as opposed to five days) and will cover:

  • Soil cultivation and turf renovation
  • Safe operation, inspection and maintenance of basic machinery
  • Setting up of running rail (on straights and bends)
  • Race day procedures, and
  • Manual handling.

The pilot for the new on-site course will be held at Cheltenham Racecourse on Tuesday and Wednesday April 5 & 6, starting at 9 am. Successful candidates will subsequently be able to progress to the IOG/RCA Intermediate and Advanced levels.
