LIVINGSTON groundsman Stuart Speirs has scooped a top accolade.
The man in charge of looking after the club’s hallowed turf has been named the Second Division Groundsman of the Year for last season.
And with that being Speirs’ first full year in the job, he’s delighted to be handed the award.
He said: “It's a real honour to be given the award. “It’s extra special because it was my first full year working on the ground.
“When I started, it was in poor condition, so this feels like a real achievement.
“Now the important thing is to keep it up.”
Speirs, 23, joined Livi midway through their spell in the Third Division after working at Delmahoy Golf Club as an assistant.
Since then he has been hard at work keeping the turf in perfect condition.
Speirs was shortlisted alongside his opposite number at Forfar following recommendations made throughout the season by match-day referees.
The Insutute of Groundsmanship then sifted through the reports to pick their top two grounds which were then inspected earlier in the year.
Speirs’ win was announced at the annual Scotsturf show at Ingleston last Thursday afternoon.
Along with the trophy, Speirs was handed £300 worth of vouchers.
St Mirren won the SPL prize, while Morton and Clyde’s groundsmen claimed the First and Third Division prizes respectively.
