The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has extended its spell as global distributor of tennis’ Wimbledon Championships until 2014 – following a competitive bid.
The contract was awarded by IMG Media in its capacity as the Championships’ official production partner.
The agreement will see Eurovision provide a full range of services for the international broadcast community during the two weeks of the sports oldest tournament.
The services will include global delivery of the world feed in HD, plus a 10-court package for the European market, also in HD.
Stefan Kuerten, director of EBU Sports & Business, said: ‘We are delighted to be renewing and extending our agreement with IMG and the AELTC (All England Lawn Tennis Club). The EBU has more than 60 years of experience in putting sports programming exactly where broadcasters and federations want it in a seamless, reliable and cost-effective way.’
‘This contract demonstrates how we continue to meet those needs in a constantly evolving technical world.’
The 2012 Wimbledon Championships will run from 25th June until the men’s final on 8th July.
