Centenary Celebrations at Southport Municipal Golfcourse

100 years of Southport Municipal

ON A September afternoon in 1912, at the north end of Southport promenade, the local mayor teed off from the first at the new municipal course and was followed by a match between two local professionals, Peter McEwan from the Hesketh and a D McEwan from the then Birkdale club, later, of course, to become Royal Birkdale.

So the famous municipal at Southport was opened.
