The England and Wales Cricket Board is the governing body for all cricket in England and Wales. The ECB provides support for the game far beyond the boundaries of just international and first class cricket. During 2008, there was an increase in participation across the recreational game of 24 per cent, with a 49 per cent increase in the number of women and girls taking part in cricket; a 137 per cent increase in disability cricket participation; and a 30 per cent increase in black and ethnic minority participation.

The FA was founded in 1863 as the governing body of the game in England. The FA is responsible for all regulatory aspects of the game of football in England. Its activities are many and varied and include the following:

Promoting the development of the game amongst all ages, backgrounds and abilities in terms of participation and quality. This also involves promoting the availability of the sport to the greatest possible number of people.

Regulating the game on and off the field of play through the "Laws of the Game" and the "Rules of The Association".

Sanctioning, either directly or indirectly, all matches, leagues and competitions played in England Overseeing the administration of the disciplinary system, which is applicable to all participants in the game (each club, player, competition, match official and any other person involved in the game in England is bound by the Rules) and the administration of refereeing throughout the game. Organising a number of senior men’s, youth and women’s national competitions (including most notably The FA Challenge Cup) and the participation of England national representative teams (again, senior men’s, youth and women’s teams) in international matches, most notably the men’s senior team in the FIFA World Championships and the UEFA European Championships and friendly fixtures.

The Premier League is the world's most watched league and the most lucrative - attracting the top players from all over the globe. Hard to believe then that the first ball kicked in the Premier League was a relatively recently as 15th August 1992. Like every other league in England, the Premier League comes under the jurisdiction of the Football Association and must submit its rules each year for approval and sanction.

The Rugby Football League is committed to managing, developing and promoting Rugby League in order to provide excellent, high quality customer services for the whole Rugby League family.

The vision of the RFL is:

To be recognised throughout the world as a leading Governing Body of sport.

The four strategic aims of the RFL are:

a) To create the best elite level Rugby League competition(s) in the world

b) To create the best, viable and competitive semi-professional competition possible

c) To maximise the numbers engaged in our sport and the enjoyment derived from participation in Rugby League

d) To be successful internationally on a sustainable basis at all levels The Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) was formed on 2nd December 1907 and is the world’s longest established professional sportsperson’s union.

The aims of the PFA are to protect, improve and negotiate the conditions, rights and status of all professional players by collective bargaining agreements. The PFA has successfully achieved its aims since its formation and has continued to grow in respect and stature through a number of notable successes throughout its history.
